Number of Planes in Fleet: 13   SAA FLEET INFORMATION Since the early days, South African Airways has had a reputation for its modern fleet and dedication to front-line aviation technology. In fact, SAA now boasts the most modern 747 fleet in the world, with the average age of the 747-400 fleet being just over two years. Just recently SAA placed firm orders for twenty-one 737-800 aircraft, with each aircraft seating 157 passengers in a mixed business and economy configuration. In addition, SAA holds options for 20 more aircraft, which can be delivered as 737-800 models, or as larger 175 seat 737-900 models, or as smaller 125 seat 737-700 models. Thirteen Boeing 737-800 aircraft are currently in service. The new fleet - which will be used to service all SAA routes in South Africa as well as regional routes throughout Southern, West, and East Africa - brings to SAA's passengers unprecedented levels of comfort, reliability, and technological sophistication.
